How to book an appointment
You can either pass on our details to your patient and ask them to give us a call, which we find is the more convenient way for your patients. Alternatively you can pass on your patients details to us (with their permission) and we will contact them directly.

What is the process for shade taking at the GoDigital-Dental lab?
Once we have your patient booked in with us we will explain exactly what we are going to be doing so we can reassure them that we will not be carrying out any invasive procedures. We will ask the patient what their expectations are and if they have any concerns. We will also need to know if they have been whitening and when the last time they wore their trays. This is very important, we ideally would not want to see a patient until they have finished their whitening treatment for a minimum of 2 weeks.
We will take a series of photos with and without shade tabs in situ in order for our Ceramists to have a good understanding of the oral situation and reasons as to why a certain shade has been selected. We may require full face photos for large cases in order for us to achieve correct line angles, incisal length and also tooth library selection for r the CAD/digital design.
The whole shade taking process can take up to 20-30 minutes depending on questions they might like to ask us.
Ideally we like to get the patient back to the lab to have the shade checked and any final alterations, however the shade check can be done back at the practice should the patient struggle to return for a second appointment with us. We will always explain that if a piece of work needs further adjustments the cases will need to be returned to the lab which could cause a delay in the work being fitted.
How can the practice assist Go Digital-Dental achieve the best shade taking results?
As a Dental Technician we don’t get to see the oral cavity at the time of prepping a tooth. We have the IOS to give us a rough guide but there is nothing better than a shade taken by the dentist of the stump shade and good quality photos. This is the perfect situation even if we’re not taking the shade at the lab.
A stump shade guide helps us to help you with material selection and the best ways to block out those darker areas.

How long does the shade taking process take?
The shade taking process is quick and efficient, typically taking around 20 to 30 minutes.
Once the shade is determined, we record all necessary details and provide a clear plan for the restoration. The process is comfortable and non-invasive, and the results are immediately available for reference when creating the final crown, bridge, or other restoration.
Can patients be involved in the shade taking process?
Yes, we encourage patients to be involved in the shade taking process. We can also show them which stage their restoration is at when they attend the lab if they are interested and have the time.
Patient involvement helps build confidence in the treatment process and reduces the likelihood of dissatisfaction with the final result. By allowing patients to be part of the decision-making, we ensure the restoration meets their expectations and blends naturally with their smile.
What happens after the shade is taken?
Once we have taken the shade, we will use this information to create a restoration that perfectly matches the patient’s natural teeth. Ideally we would always like to bring the patient back in to check the shade. If this isn’t possible the dentist can check the shade in the clinic.
Our skilled technicians carefully craft the crown, bridge, or other restoration using high-quality materials to ensure both durability and aesthetics.
When we are happy with the result, our admin team will call the patient back for a shade check, we advise that they may need to sit with a ceramist for a short while if there are any adjustments to be made. This is very rare but we like to prepare the patient so they can allocate enough time from their day.
